Bob Norris Christmas Lights Display

Welcome to the Norris Family Christmas Light display with over 40,000 lights that blink in sync with Christmas songs that you listen to over your car radio. This is our 5th year of a computer controlled light display that my neighbor also blinks his lights in sync with making us the only two houses in Orange County who blink together. Besides the lights, my display also includes 100+ Christmas display figures that you can see on my Christmas Yard Displays page.

This year, we are collecting food for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County and there is a barrel in front of my house and my neighbor's house to drop off non perishable food. If you're coming by to see the lights, please bring some food to donate to the homeless.

  FAQ
Top Ten Frequently Asked Questions:

1) How Big is Your Electrical Bill?
Going to computerized lights means the lights are really only on 50% of the time for about 5-6 hours. Also each year my electrical bill is getting smaller because I am changing over to LED lights. A single old-fashioned C9 light-bulb is equal to an entire string of LED lights.
I would guess in 2008 our bill was $125 extra.
2) How long does it take to set up everything?
It takes 60-80hours. I start before Thanksgiving putting the lights on the roof. Showtime goal is the 1st Saturday of Dec.
3) How many lights do you have?
For 2008 I installed: 28,000 lights
20’ tall Mega Tree = 9,600 lights
20 – 3’ trees on the roof @ 300 lights ea = 6,000 lights
20 red and white stripes on the roof = 4,000 lights
Icicles roof =1,400 lights
24’ driveway arch = 2,400 lights
Yard, Tree, Hedge, and floods = 3,500 lights
Santa and Reindeer figures = 1,000 lights

6) What is on the lawn – Doesn’t kill the grass?
It's a cotton bating that comes in 10' wide x 60' long x 1" thick rolls. The grass is green when we roll up the bating for storage so it seems to not mind the covering and the filtered light.
7) How do the lights move to the music?
I'm using Light-o-Rama (www.lightorama.com) software. I currently have 8 boards each with 16 control "channels" .
8) How long to program a song?
Songs are programmed via a computer where it can take up to 15-20 hours per song. You 1st figure out the beat , then figure which light strings go on/off with each beat of the music.
9) How do you send the music to our radios?
I am using a Ramsey FM30B transmitter which can broadcast up to 300ft. I picked an empty station 89.7FM to broadcast on.
10) WHY?
Bring joy to the world and seeing a child’s face light up
